Senior Accountant

This firm specializes in business advisory, interim management, and investment banking services, with a strong focus on the middle market. They are currently seeking a Senior Accountant to join their in-house team. Reporting directly to the Controller, this individual will play a crucial role in maintaining an exemplary accounting function. The Senior Associate, Accounting & Finance will thrive in a collaborative, small-team environment, managing various work streams with diligence.

This internal role offers the potential for client-facing experiences if desired (likely 85% internal and 15% external). You will be the second member of this growing function, which is expected to expand to eight team members by the end of 2026. This position promises substantial exposure to leadership and the workings of a successful business, enabling you to steer your career in alignment with your aspirations. Based in their Chicago, Illinois office, this role requires four days in-office, with seven to eight “work-from-anywhere” weeks per year and unlimited PTO.

Salary: $85k – $105k base with a 5% to 10% end-of-year bonus target.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute key aspects of the month-end closing process
  • Support FP&A processes, including internal and external financial reporting and budget versus actuals analysis
  • Prepare monthly KPI reporting and dashboards
  • Assist in the annual budgeting process and contribute to the development of a rolling forecast process
  • Collaborate with Data Analytics to implement automations across finance and accounting processes
  • Manage day-to-day aspects of the finance and accounting function, including invoicing and collections management, accounts payable, and critical systems administration
  • Support equity, compensation, and 401(k) program administration
  • Assist with regulatory reporting requirements
  • Provide support to external audit and tax professionals
  • Contribute to talent acquisition and firm development efforts

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier undergraduate program
  • Interest in a team-based culture with four days per week in the office
  • Two to three years of experience at a reputable public accounting firm
  • Valid CPA certification
  • Proficiency in communicating analyses through Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, with an emphasis on high-quality messaging, structure, and formatting
